Before wastes expedition

[Peter already has a feeling this conversation won't go so great, but... he wants Norman and Otto to know where he's going.]

Otto, hey

I just wanted to let you know I'm going to be joining Steven and the rest of the people headed out the wastes to explore it.

Just as Peter, no Spider-Man, no heroics. Promise. I'll be safe.

[Peter is what. After what happened to Peter in the wastes last time, it really doesn't sit well with Otto that he's going back. The situation is different now; they'll go in prepared and should be able to leave whenever they'd like, but even then...]

Is anyone else you know going there?

Beat, Joshua, Chiaki, Sonic, I think Bruno? There are more people I only kind of know too. Its a pretty big group.

Several people who've been there before, then. Well, I suppose that's for the best. You'll have a better lay of the land already.

You'll bring plenty to eat, won't you?

We're going to stay in groups. I'll keep close with Beat, Chiaki or Steven probably.

[The "dad" drop gives him bittersweet pause. Even after all these months, it doesn't get old.]

Since you're going with a larger group, it wouldn't hurt to bring extra. Just in case anyone else runs low on their own supplies.

Oh yeah. That is a good idea.

I guess I can finally just dig into my snack pile and throw it at people for once. It'll maybe stave off the hunger that fog causes, even if my snacks aren't... you know.

Of course. To some degree, the hunger is psychological. The act of eating something may decrease it, even if it doesn't provide the nourishment necessary to avoid losing oneself.

It's also probably better to carry that, since the more... I guess feral monsters out there won't be as attracted to the smell as they would to anything made of people.

I guess I can count this as a way to clear out a lot of what I have, so, helpful on two counts.

[That mention of feral monsters is not making Otto feel any better about all this! But he tries to hide it the best he can.]

[Peter for his part is trying for some logistical line of thought. Even if its not quite perfect, or as reassuring as he would hope it is.]

I might ask you to help me go over the packing list to be sure I have everything. Last time I went on a trip, May sort of helped me with that.

Just make sure you're up for all this, alright? If it's too taxing for you, it might be better to stay home, no matter how much you want to go.

But I'm glad Norman's willing to give you a lift to the college.

Yeah, if I change my mind, I'll definitely stay. I know I'm not thrilled to be going back, but I want to know more. I want to help.

It'll be more reassuring than trying to get a taxi there. Probably make you guys feel better too.

It WOULD make us feel better, yes. I'll see if I can join the drive as well.

Unless you want to go alone with Norman.

I'd like if you could come too. Though it's not exactly going to be a drive anywhere fun tbh.

That's all the more reason to come along, in my opinion. We can make the drive itself more fun.

It'll probably be the more fun drive of the day honestly.

Norman seems like he wants to make a big breakfast too, so, it'll be a good start to the day.

[Peter is just going to side step anything going wrong, for both their sakes. He doesn't want to make Otto worry anymore than he has to.]

I suppose a big breakfast at home is for the best. Ryslig doesn't exactly have any drive thrus we can visit along the way, now does it?

I think we should probably be thankful there aren't any drive thrus out here. I'm kind of worried about what that would even entail food wise.

So long as it'd be run by locals, there wouldn't be any human ingredients, I should think. But what the locals here would count as suitable junkfood is a whole other matter. Brown cheese on a bun, maybe? Pickled herring?

I hate that I'm actually kind of curious about that and want it now. Otto why. I blame you.

I'm afraid I can't make the hypothetical junkfood places appear, but we can always slap some brown cheese on a bun when you get home from the wastes.

[If Otto is in the house at the same time as Peter, he can likely hear the pooka's laughter carrying.]

I'll hold you to that, Otto. Might as well have something besides safety to look forward to when I get back home.
