Oh yes, from how I understand it, Shades can keep their forms for as long as they want. All it takes is the right amount of concentration.

[The only reason he knows this is because Spengler's guide seems to imply it, and because Bruno was a Shade for so long. It also implies he doesn't have enough concentration to change the shape of his tentacles. Alas...]

Ooh, okay. That makes sense. I kind of just picture what I want and it happens? [Peter doesn't find it anymore like concentration than when he's a pooka, but he's gotten used to that level of intensity when it comes to thinking.] Lemme see if I can change again.

[He shifts to looking like Chiaki's shadow looming on the wall. Though it bounces between her nymph form and settles on her pooka shape.] Okay, Chiaki is harder to pin down, takes more thought since she keeps changing.

[He watches the bounce between forms, fascinated by how that's playing out. So the transformation is tied the mind's associations, is it? He hadn't expected it to work quite like that, but it makes sense.]

You'll have to settle for someone more static, then. Go on, let's see your Beck impression. [This should be good.]

Oh, okay, sure. [He has to think for a second before his shape shifts to something taller, initially a human shaped version of Beck. Hair slicked back, in a Mysterio suit from the 'cut' of the fabric and weighty cape at the back.

Peter narrows his eyes so the white large eyes are irritated slits as he shakes his fist at the sky.

It ripples into his fae form, multiple hands clenched, looking like he's going to start yelling.]

I think this is pretty close.

[Otto has to fight a hard battle not to laugh, and quite frankly, he's losing that battle. A deep, short little guffaw manages to escape. Oh well.]

Oh yes, that's close. But you know, I'm not sure he's angry enough.

I don't think I can reach that level of angry? [Peter muses, breaking from 'character', he opens his eyes completely to look at Otto. The large uncanny white eyes look odd on a Beck shaped shadow.]

Lemme see...

[Peter narrows his eyes again, shaking his head, trying to look like he's shaking in rage, yanking at his hair and howling at the sky.

An unspoken 'better?' hangs in the air between them.]

[Oof. Yes, the odd eyes don't make for a very good match. Thankfully, they aren't shown for very long. The next imitation is another one that has Otto barely suppressing a toothy grin. He snaps his fingers, then points Peter's way.]

That's it. That's the one. You got it.

[Its Peter's turn to laugh at Otto's reaction.

He is unable to maintain the shape completely due to his own laughter. Briefly defaulting to a more familiar pooka shape before he's back to something more human.]

At this point, I feel like I at least know what his anger is like at least. Thank you.

I should hope that anger's simmering down by now, though. It's been... [Give him a second to calculate the months.] Yes, good lord. It's been nine months since the three of us arrived, if you can believe it.

He gets kinda agitated sometimes, but not accidentally kill himself with a drone levels of anger.

[Peter blinks his large uncanny white eyes in surprise.] Nine months- really? That feels... like too long and not long enough?

Those two feelings ought to balance each other out, then. Nine months it is. [He falls silent for a moment, his fingers drumming against the cover of his book.] ... I somehow hadn't expected to be here for quite that long.

I mean, its been... a good and bad mixture of nine months, right? Mostly good in some places. [Peter offers back flattening himself a little further back against the wall.]

[He reflexively thinks of the bad as well. The death, the worrying, the Goblin... But Peter has the right idea to focus on the good, so he smiles.]

Yes. Mostly good. You're right about that.

So much stuff just... happens? Stuff we can't really stop or control completely, but there was good there too.

[Peter shrugs a little uncertainly, wondering if he's being naïve about it.] I'm gonna give the Shade stuff a 3/10 since it could be worse for us personally, and its not completely ruining everything at Bavan.

Mmmh. Things seem quiet enough over there. A bit of collateral damage on occasion, some power outages, but the buildings are still standing.

[For now. But Otto's been going to work every day and it's... Well. It could be worse. He glances down towards the sunglasses, and after a moment's pause, one of his tentacles moves down to try and grab it. He's been having trouble making them solid, so the maw's 'fingers' end up just going through it. ...God he's glad he's not a full Shade.]

Given what happened last time, everything still standing but being a little janky is an improvement. [Peter muses in turn, starting to emerge from the wall now.

Otto's attempt doesn't go unnoticed.]

You gotta really focus to pick up anything. It sucks, but, its doable.

Mmh, I'm trying to focus, but... [The claw goes through the sunglasses and the table a second time.] It's the movement, I think. I'm so distracted by moving the limbs that I don't know how to focus on solidifying them.

I dunno if it'll help, but... I just think about the weight of it in my hands. That kind of helps me pick things up like this. [Peter knows what most things around the house feel like in his hands, so its made navigating much easier.]

[So he has to picture how it feels- how much it weighs and how gravity presses down on that? That sounds strange to him, but he can give it a go. He closes his eyes for a few seconds, then tries again, really focusing on visualizing that feel. The tip of the tentacle's claw nudges the sunglasses and causes it to move, only to go incorporeal again after a split second.]

Hm. Well. I suppose that was progress.

Its getting somewhere, literally even. [Peter jokes easily enough in turn, smiling back at Otto encouragingly.] I tend to just picture holding something too, since I know how that feels in theory. Even if its different now.

[He peers down at the sunglasses again, but ultimately withdraws the tentacle with a quiet sigh.]

It's fine. I shouldn't grow too reliant on these things anyway. Before we know it, things will be back to normal.

Yeah, it won't last long, but... it's fun to experiment with. Who knows if or when any of us will be shades again? [Peter says easily enough, shrugging a little back.]

Hopefully never. It's not really for me, I feel. [He isn't actively suffering, but then, he only has the shadow tentacles. If he were to be a full Shade, it's hard to say just how he'd feel.]

I think if I were to experiment with something, I'd prefer... Pooka, or werewolf. Something like that.

I'm not sure what I think about shade. Its really different in a lot of ways I'm not sure how to wrap my head around.

[Peter snorts a little at that, his form shifting into a much smaller pooka travel form shape on the wall. A pocket sized rat.

The shadow rat clambers along the bottom of the wall, before starting to climb up, sticking to it easily.]

Good to know both you and Norman do wanna be Pooka maybe one day. Maybe both of you guys would end up rats too- or like mice? Squirrels?

[If Otto weren't very much aware that the shadow rat is Peter, it'd be the sort of thing he'd find a little unnerving. That's a very curious combination, after all.]

I expect I'd end up as a rabbit or a hare. A very big one. Or a beaver, if that's the sort of form a Pooka could take.
